McKenzie Clearwater
Fire Department

The McKenzie Clearwater Fire Department is a charitable organization providing emergency services to cottage owners and year-round residents in Northwestern Ontario. Located on the beautiful Lake of the Woods, our team of volunteers work year-round to fundraise to be able to provide these services.

Our funding for the Volunteer Fire Department comes from 5 sources.

- Keeman Local Services Board (LSB)

- Fund Raising actives of the volunteer Directors and Fighter Fighters

- Ministry Transportation Ontario (MTO) on a per accident bases

- Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) on a contractual bases

- Private Donations

The KeeMan LSB was established January 1, 2011 under the NORTHERN SERVICES

BOARDS ACT and was granted the power of Fire Protection in accordance with the Act. The

local Service Board provides the McKenzie Clearwater Fire Department with approximately 80% of the funding.

During the past 25 years we have hosted numerous fundraising events to be able to provide

these services. Pancake Breakfasts and our Annual Dinner with auction are examples of our

community involvement.

We receive tax deductible donations from area seasonal and permanent resident owners.

The area served by the McKenzie Clearwater Fire Dept. is the KeeMan LSB boundary.

This is the area South of the CP Rail Line (excluding Ingolf) from the Manitoba border to the

edge of Keewatin, south and southeast through Keewatin Channel and west across Ptarmigan Bay including mainland areas in Shoal Lake narrows, Shoal Lake and Clytie Bay. It includes areas of the Townships of Gundy, Broderick, Gidley, Pellatt, Ewat, Forgie, Boys and Glass and in the unsurveyed territory in the Territorial District of Kenora.

If you have any questions regarding whether your property is in the LSB please send your

About the McKenzie Clearwater Fire Department

Thank you to everyone who attended!

The McKenzie-Clearwater Fire Department is starting a major fundraising campaign to raise funds to map all of our 2,000 plus residents in our area ranging from McKenzie Portage Road to the Manitoba Border. This is so we can provide our services in a more efficient manner.

We do not have 911 service. If you use your cell phone to contact 911, the call is directed to a call centre in eastern Canada; they will give a GPS location in the middle of a blank map. This can take as long as 40 minutes to get our dispatch centre. Most maps of our area do not have any private roads or drive ways on them. All of our water access residents do not have a location on any map which causes us delays in finding you in an emergency.

The provincial government lays out the type of mapping and signage that is necessary to meet their standards. Every property will have a sign post with a blue sign imprinted with a number which will allow the fire department, police and ambulance to find you quickly in any emergency. These maps will be loaded into Kenora dispatch to allow them to dispatch emergency responders properly.

This is an extremely large project costing approximately $150 per property for mapping and government approve signage. We are looking at a total cost of this project in the $300,000 range. The goal of our fundraising campaign is to start on the mapping by next spring. We estimate that this will take us three years depending on how well we do with our donations. Once we have the mapping and signage done we can apply to Bell Canada to be added to the 911 coverage area.

We are a private not-for-profit corporation that can provide you with a tax receipt for any donations we receive. Please help us provide the service that you deserve!
